Many terms are given in Sanskrit, since there is really no equivalent term yet in English. Where known, the Tibetan, Pali, Chinese Pin-yin, and other versions of the term may also be given, usually in parenthesis. Although many of the definitions are from translations of discourses and writiings given by His Holiness Dorje Chang Buddha III or by Female Dharma King Dorje Pa Mu, this glossary has not been reviewed by either of these holy beings so that we cannot consider these to be "definitive" definitions. Only very simple and oft times incomplete explanations can be offered here as a reference to hopefully help the reader gain a little insight and understanding. This glossary as well as most of the other content of this web-site is a "work in progress" that will be revised and refined as appropriate. Only the sections that are taken from the precious book H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III can be considered authentic Buddha-dharma.
There is a very comprehensive Theravadan website that provides basic Buddhist terms and doctrines in English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Portugese that may also be helpful. Remember that this is from the hinayana perspective so may appear to be different from what you will find elsewhere. The reader must understand that many concepts are explained or defined quite differently in the different systems of teachings offered by the Buddha.
