Dorje Chang Buddha III Presented to the State of Michigan

September 10-11, 2008--Ann Arbor & Detroit, Michigan: The Dharma Propagation Team visited Buddhist temples and dharma centers in Ann Arbor and Detroit and presented the book H.H. Dorje Chang Buddha III to public libraries in those cities. The lamas are shown here with Thai monks from Buddha Vihara (The Midwest Buddhist Meditation Center) and also with Duryea H. Callaway of the Wayne State University Library. Lily Lim is seen leaving Buddha Vihara.

Zhaxi Zhuoma Rinpoche gave a presentation on how and why Dorje Chang Buddha has come to America to monks from local Buddhist temples and local residents at Christ Church in downtown Detroit. The beautiful stained glass window shown here is one of many at this historic church.
A spirited discussion developed over how the different sects of Buddhism understand just who Shakyamuni Buddha is. All the participants agreed that the World-Honored One, Shakyamuni Buddha, offers the medicine that everyone needs to be free from the suffering that is inherent in this world. Rinpoche stressed that Shakyamuni Buddha knew that different methods were necessary to enable those having differing karmic conditions to become enlightened. Although the methods of the various sects sometimes appear on the surface to be quite different, when investigated and thoroughly understood there is no contradiction. The esoteric tradition that the rinpoche introduced is unique in the speed with which one can obtain enlightenment, but it is not different in the fundamental teachings of the Buddha offered in other traditions. It is, however, only for those who have the good fortune to find an authentic master who will teach it.
